Magazine Cover Analysis

Exercise: Look at a magazine cover. What can you tell about the type of magazine it is; what kinds of articles it contains; who is likely to read it? Why?

- This magazine is likely to focus on educated women. I can predict this by seeing what the model (Angelina Jolie) is wearing and how she is posed; she is posed elegantly, not inappropriately, and her attire very formal. Also, the title of the magazine, Ms., tells me this article is mainly about women or women speaking on subjects. The color of the cover tells me that this has a serious tone because it is neutral rather than crazy..i.e..stripes.

-This magazine contains articles on the Black Lives Matter movement, football and domestic violence, climate change, and the latest news with Angelina Jolie based on the cover lines. However, this magazine may also include small articles that are not advertised by the cover.

- Finally, this magazine wold most likely target young adults to mid-aged adults. The cover lines make me think that a lot of women would like to read this because educated women speak about serious topics, there are articles on women in business, women role models are spoken about, etc.
